“Late”… but not a dollar short

Normally, my newsletters show up in your inbox Tuesday morning.
As you may have noticed, today is Wednesday.

I gave myself permission to send it “late.”

But here’s the thing.
It’s not actually late, is it?

As Gandalf the Grey would say,
“A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.”

And honestly, isn’t that true about most things?

Timelines, due dates, deadlines… ALL FAKE.

Time isn’t real, so why does the stress about fake deadlines feel so real?

Usually, it comes down to mindset.
More specifically, the SHOULD behind it all.

I “should” write my newsletter on Monday so it can be sent on Tuesday because it ALWAYS is.

And if you know me, you know I see your should… and raise you an all-or-nothing.

If you’re not familiar, “should-ing” and all-or-nothing thinking are what Cognitive Behavioral Therapy calls cognitive distortions. I like to call it incongruent thinking.

When we’re stuck here, we’re usually overthinking and under-feeling and/or under-acting. And that’s where the stress shows up.

So instead of spiraling over a fake deadline I created, I did something radical.

I changed it.

I turned “I should send my newsletter tomorrow at all costs.”
into “I can send it on Wednesday.”

And you know what happened?

Nothing.

The world is even still spinning.
You’re still here reading this!

And now I have yet another real-life example of what happens when you take a small step, challenge your thinking, and make sure what you do actually matches what you think, want, need, feel, etc.

So happy Wednesday.
This Tuesday newsletter is right on time.

With permission and less stress,
Candice
